Keeping track of PBS Safety Net spending

The PBS Safety Net may reduce eligible medicine costs after the relevant annual threshold is reached. Ask your pharmacist how to record eligible spending, especially if you use multiple pharmacies.

Keep records together

Choose one place for receipts and pharmacy records. Ask the pharmacist how family spending is recorded and what documents it needs. A shopping-account history is not automatically a PBS Safety Net record.

Use the official current information

Thresholds and eligibility can change. Use Services Australia’s current guidance and ask the pharmacist about your situation instead of relying on a figure from an old article. Its PB240 form is designed to record PBS/RPBS medicine spending and apply for a Safety Net card.

Your checklist

  • Ask which spending counts.
  • Keep records from different pharmacies together.
  • Use the current official form and guidance.

A common question

Does every pharmacy purchase count?

Do not assume so. Ask the pharmacist which supplies are eligible.
