Keeping useful pharmacy receipts and order records

Keep itemised receipts and order confirmations separately. A confirmation shows a request was recorded; a receipt records a payment, and may still not establish eligibility for a rebate or claim.

Check before leaving or closing the page

Look for the pharmacy name, date and the details you need. If something is missing, ask the pharmacy to provide the appropriate document. Avoid sending a whole health-related purchase history when only one receipt is required.

Match documents to their purpose

For PBS records, discuss the correct evidence with the pharmacist. For any insurer or other claim, check that organisation’s requirements directly. Do not treat a general guide or a product category as confirmation that an expense is reimbursable.

Your checklist

  • Keep the itemised payment receipt.
  • Match it to the correct order.
  • Ask the receiving organisation what evidence it needs.

A common question

Is a receipt the same as a PBS Safety Net record?

Not necessarily. Ask the pharmacy which record or form you need.
